Student Communication Consent
This optional consent allows UNICONS to send you marketing and informational communications about educational opportunities, events, scholarships, and partner universities via email, SMS, and WhatsApp. You can withdraw consent at any time.
1. Introduction
This Student Communication Consent ("Consent") governs how LOPEX UNICONS LTD (trading as UNICONS) communicates with you for marketing and informational purposes beyond the transactional service communications that are necessary to deliver our educational consultancy services.
Providing this consent is entirely optional. It is not a condition of registering with UNICONS or of receiving our core consultancy services. You may withdraw this consent at any time without any detriment to the services you receive.
This Consent is obtained in accordance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and supplements the information set out in our Student Privacy Notice.
2. What Marketing Communications Include
If you provide your consent, UNICONS may send you communications in the following categories:
2.1 Educational Opportunity Alerts - Notifications about new university and college partners joining the UNICONS network - Alerts about courses and programmes that match your stated academic interests and profile - Information about open days, campus tours, and virtual events hosted by Partner Institutions - Announcements about new intakes, application deadlines, and early decision opportunities
2.2 Scholarship and Bursary Information - Details of scholarships, bursaries, fee waivers, and other financial awards available through UNICONS' Partner Institutions - Information about external scholarship programmes and funding bodies relevant to your country of origin and chosen field of study - Notifications of scholarship application deadlines and requirements
2.3 Partner University Updates - News and updates from UNICONS Partner Institutions including campus developments, ranking announcements, and programme changes - Profiles, spotlights, and testimonials from students enrolled at Partner Institutions - Updates on visa and entry requirement changes from Partner Institutions
2.4 UNICONS Events and Webinars - Invitations to UNICONS-hosted education fairs, webinars, and Q&A sessions - Announcements about UNICONS' presence at education exhibitions and events in your country or region - Invitations to virtual consultation sessions and information evenings
2.5 General Educational Content - Guides, articles, and resources on topics such as applying to UK universities, writing personal statements, preparing for interviews, student life in the UK, and related topics - Updates on changes to UK immigration rules and student visa processes (general information only — not regulated immigration advice) - Seasonal reminders about application cycles, UCAS deadlines, and academic calendars
3. Communication Channels
With your consent, UNICONS may contact you through the following channels:
3.1 Email Marketing and informational emails will be sent to the email address registered to your UNICONS account. Emails will be clearly identifiable as coming from UNICONS (from an @unicons.co.uk email address) and will include a clearly visible Unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email.
3.2 SMS (Short Message Service) Text messages may be sent to the mobile telephone number registered to your UNICONS account. SMS messages will be used primarily for time-sensitive alerts such as scholarship deadlines, upcoming events, and important application-related reminders. Standard network rates may apply depending on your mobile provider.
3.3 WhatsApp Where you have provided a WhatsApp-enabled telephone number and have separately opted in to WhatsApp communications, UNICONS may send you marketing communications via WhatsApp Business. WhatsApp messages from UNICONS will come from a verified UNICONS Business account. You can opt out of WhatsApp communications at any time by replying "STOP" to any UNICONS WhatsApp message or by contacting us directly.
3.4 Platform Notifications Logged-in users may receive in-platform notifications about relevant opportunities and events. These are subject to your notification preferences set within the Platform.
4. Frequency of Communications
UNICONS aims to ensure that marketing communications are relevant, timely, and not excessive. As a general guide:
- Email communications: We aim to send no more than 2–4 marketing emails per month. Frequency may increase around key application seasons (e.g. September intake deadline periods) or when particularly relevant opportunities arise.
- SMS communications: SMS messages will be used sparingly — typically for urgent reminders, time-limited opportunities, or event reminders. We aim to send no more than 4 SMS messages per month.
- WhatsApp communications: WhatsApp messages will be sent no more than 2 times per month for general marketing purposes. Event-specific or deadline-specific messages may be sent outside this cadence where genuinely time-sensitive.
UNICONS reserves the right to adjust communication frequency based on your engagement behaviour (e.g. increased frequency if you regularly open and engage with our communications) and the availability of genuinely relevant content.
We will not engage in unsolicited bulk messaging or spam. All communications will be targeted based on your stated profile, preferences, and application stage.
5. Distinction Between Transactional and Marketing Communications
It is important to understand the distinction between two categories of communications you may receive from UNICONS:
5.1 Transactional (Service) Communications — Always Sent
Transactional communications are necessary for the delivery of your UNICONS consultancy services and are sent regardless of whether you have provided marketing consent. These include:
- Account registration confirmations and verification emails
- Password reset and security notifications
- Notifications of new messages from your assigned counsellor or agent
- Application status updates (e.g. "Your application has been submitted", "You have received an offer")
- Document request notifications from UNICONS or Partner Institutions
- Important policy or terms update notifications
- Deadline reminders directly related to your active applications
- Responses to enquiries you have made
These communications are sent on the basis of our contractual obligation to deliver our services to you and do not require your separate consent under PECR. You cannot opt out of transactional communications while your account remains active, as they are essential to the provision of services. If you wish to cease receiving all communications from UNICONS, you must close your account.
5.2 Marketing Communications — Only Sent With Consent
Marketing communications are those described in Section 2 above. These are sent only if you have provided your consent and will cease immediately upon withdrawal of consent, subject to the processing time described in Section 6.
6. How to Withdraw Consent
You have the right to withdraw your marketing communications consent at any time. Withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out prior to withdrawal, and will not affect your right to receive transactional communications or your access to UNICONS services.
You may withdraw consent through any of the following methods:
6.1 Unsubscribe Links Every marketing email sent by UNICONS includes a clearly visible Unsubscribe or Manage Preferences link. Clicking this link will allow you to unsubscribe from some or all marketing communication channels.
6.2 Reply "STOP" to SMS or WhatsApp Replying "STOP" to any marketing SMS or WhatsApp message from UNICONS will immediately remove you from that communication channel.
6.3 In-Platform Preference Centre You can update your communication preferences at any time by visiting the Notifications and Privacy section of your UNICONS account settings on the Platform.
6.4 Email or Written Request You may email us at enquiry@unicons.co.uk with the subject line "Withdraw Marketing Consent" or write to us at LOPEX UNICONS LTD, 214 High Street, Second Floor, Hounslow, TW3 1HB, London, United Kingdom.
Processing Time: We will action all withdrawal requests within 5 business days of receipt. Note that due to email scheduling, you may receive up to 1–2 further marketing emails while your withdrawal is being processed. This does not constitute a breach of your preferences.
7. What Changes When Consent Is Withdrawn
Upon withdrawal of your marketing communications consent:
- UNICONS will cease sending marketing emails, SMS messages, and WhatsApp messages to your registered contact details
- Your contact details will be added to UNICONS' suppression list to ensure you are not re-added to marketing lists without fresh consent
- You will continue to receive all transactional communications necessary for the delivery of your UNICONS services as described in Section 5.1
- You will retain full access to the UNICONS Platform and all consultancy services
- Your personal data will not be deleted solely by virtue of withdrawing marketing consent; data processing for service delivery purposes will continue in accordance with the Student Privacy Notice
- UNICONS will retain a record of your consent and its withdrawal for compliance purposes for a period of 3 years
You may re-provide marketing consent at any time by visiting your notification preferences in the Platform.
8. Data Used for Marketing Personalisation
Where you have provided consent to marketing communications, UNICONS may use the following categories of your data to personalise the content we send you:
- Your stated country of origin and country of destination
- Your academic background, qualifications, and areas of interest
- Your application history and the types of institutions and programmes you have explored
- Your engagement with previous UNICONS communications (e.g. email open rates, link clicks)
- Your stated preferences in the Platform notification centre
This personalisation is carried out to ensure that the communications you receive are relevant to your circumstances and genuinely useful to you. It does not involve any fully automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
You may object to the use of your data for personalised marketing by contacting us at enquiry@unicons.co.uk. Opting out of personalisation will not prevent you from receiving general marketing communications if you have consented to them.
9. Third-Party Marketing
UNICONS will not share your contact details with third-party organisations for the purpose of those third parties sending their own marketing to you without your separate, explicit consent.
Where UNICONS emails contain information about Partner Institution events or scholarship programmes, such content is curated and distributed by UNICONS and does not involve the transfer of your contact data to that institution for their own marketing purposes. If you respond directly to a Partner Institution's event or scholarship programme, you may be subject to that institution's own communications policies.
